JESUS GIVES US A NEW IDENTITY.
I am proud I belong to and I am proud to be a Christian.
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 1 PETER 2:9–10
We all need to belong, and we can all think of a few times when we did something we regretted just to identify with a group.
With Jesus in our lives, we finally belong. We are accepted by Him, and we also become part of a unique group. As believers, we are freedom fighters, releasing the captives. We have been given the ministry of reconciliation, charged with preaching the message of God’s saving love. No longer identified with the darkness, we are identified as salt and light, overcoming evil with good.
Our new identity in Christ gives our lives purpose, fulfillment, and joy.
